Dear Parents:

As my readers know, I’ve dedicated my life to communicating the truth in the Word of God. Every book I write, every talk I give, teaches the principles in God’s Word and gives ideas for application essential for healthy, happy lives. In this article I’ve compiled a list of truths children must be taught and absolutely need to learn. You can talk about these truths around your dinner table, in the car, or at bedtime until they are ingrained in your children’s minds and hearts.

Children need to know faith is not a wishy-washy feeling. Faith is rooted in facts about man and God. We do not hang up our brain to be believers. Children need to know who they are –children of God created with human dignity and life purpose - and Scripture reveals why they were created – to know, love and glorify God. Children are unique, exquisite creations of a loving Father with great plans for their lives.

God is real.

God created all that is.

God has a purpose for each life.

Children must know - at an age-appropriate time (I suggest around seven) that evil exists in the world. Any person living without God lives in a fallen state. God designed a plan to reconnect everyone who will trust Him. God will restore the fullness of a holy, joyful life. But children are responsible each day for their choices to do good or evil.

Values matter.

Character counts.

Truth must be total.

The written word of God - the Bible – contains important truths for children - not minutely detailed truth like when to wear a jacket - but it contains total truth about living with integrity –wholeness- and significance. Studying the Bible will fill children’s minds with the absolute truths of God.

Words convey meaning.

Words reveal the mind and heart.

The Word of God holds truth.

Evolution of man is a false theory. Man is created intentionally, not by accident. Solid evidence points to God’s creation of the world. The argument for evolution is ridiculous in light of the modern discoveries of DNA and the electron microscope which show the incredible complexity of even the tiniest cell. No way such intricacy could happen by chance! Many of our greatest scientists like Sir Isaac Newton and Blaise Pascal were Christian. Some otherwise intelligent people may close their minds to the order and design in the universe, but it’s there for those who choose to think with an open mind.

Children can think.

Thinking takes work.

Truth can be known.

Ideas, anchored in truth, are exciting. I love ideas. I hope I’ve conveyed this passion to you and your children. Acquiring material things, winning at sports, nothing can compare to the joy of right thinking with a Biblical foundation. Teach your children these principles and they’ll have a philosophy of life that will serve them well.
